Operation Sindoor was launched after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on May 7, in which 26 people lost their lives. Operation Sindoor attacked terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoJK). Indian armed forces also effectively repulsed the subsequent Pakistani invasion and bombed its air bases. Following India’s strong reaction, the Pakistani DGMO contacted his Indian counterpart to end hostilities.

Additionally, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also highlighted the BJP government’s focus on self-reliance in the Indian defense sector. He said that we have changed the conditions prevailing in the defense sector since independence. We emphasized that India will manufacture weapons for its soldiers within the country. The circumstances were very unfavorable for us. But we did not give up. We made every possible effort to promote defense manufacturing. And we started seeing positive results of our efforts.
