The Vigilance Bureau caught the superintendent engineer red-handed while accepting a bribe of one lakh rupees

Punjab Vigilance Bureau during the anti-corruption campaign in the state today, Superintendent Engineer (SE) Quality Control posted at Water Supply and Sanitation Department, SAS Nagar, R.K. Gupta has been arrested red-handed by taking a bribe of Rs. 1,00,000.

Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the said accused has been arrested on the complaint of Mr. Muktsar Sahib, a resident of Lakhpat Rai. He said that the complainant has approached the Vigilance Bureau and told that he is working with a government contractor.

To which the tender was allotted regarding the drinking water supply scheme in Khunnan village of Kotbhai block of Sri Muktsar Sahib district. The complainant further alleged that the said Superintendent Engineer had demanded a bribe of Rs.2,00,000 in exchange for settling the outstanding bills and submitting the inspection report of the said project but the deal was settled at Rs.1 lakh.

The spokesperson further said that after the preliminary investigation of this complaint, the vigilance unit of Bathinda range laid a trap and caught the accused superintendent engineer red-handed by accepting a bribe of Rs. 1,00,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. The vigilance team also recovered the bribe money from him on the spot.

In this regard, a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the said accused at Bathinda police station of Vigilance Bureau and further investigation has been started.
