The Supreme Court has uploaded the details of the property of its judges on its website. A statement released on Monday said that the details of the property of all the judges of the Supreme Court have been made public to maintain transparency and public confidence in Judicry.

The Supreme Court said in a release- The Full Court of the Supreme Court has decided on 1 April 2025 that the details of the property of the court judges will be uploaded on the website and kept in a public domain. The details of the judges are already being uploaded. On getting information about the rest of the judges, it will be uploaded.

This decision has been taken after a dispute of getting cash from the house of Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Verma. Justice Verma’s government bungalow caught fire on 14 March. The fire service team received half -baked notes there.

Information about the assets of 33 judges of Supreme Court on the website

The ‘As Aasse of Judges’ uploaded on the website has a list of 33 judges. These include CJI Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gawai, Justice Suryakant, Justice Abhay S. Oka, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice J.K. Maheshwari, Justice B.V. Nagratna, Justice MM Sundaresh, Justice Bella M. Trivedi, Justice Pamidighantam Shri Narasimha, Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, Justice Jamshed Burjor Pardiwala, Justice Dipankar, Justice Dipankar Dutta, Justice Pankaj Mithil, Justice Sanjay Karol, Justice Sanjay Kumar, Justice Manoj Mishra, Justice Rajesh Mishra, Justice Rajesh Mishra, Justice Arvind Kumar, Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Justice K.V. Vishwanathan, Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan, Justice S. What else did the Supreme Court upload

  • The Supreme Court has also put the entire process of appointments in the High Court and the Supreme Court on its website, including the role handed over to the Supreme Court collegium, input from the state governments and the Union of India and the ideas of the collegium. This decision was taken so that the public could get information and awareness.
  • From 9 November 2022 to 5 May 2025, the Supreme Court collegium has also uploaded proposals for appointments as judges of the High Court. This includes the name of the judge, High Court, Source- from Service or Bar, Date of Supreme Court Collegium, date of notification, date of appointment, special category (SC/ST/OBC/Minority/Women).
  • It has also been told in this information whether the candidate is not associated with an existing or retired High Court/Supreme Court judge.

Large developments related to Supreme Court judges’ property announcement

  • 1997 proposal: In 1997, the then CJI JS Verma passed a resolution, in which the judges were expected to announce their assets to the Chief Justice. However, this announcement was not to be made public.
  • 2009 Judge Property Bill: In 2009, “Judge Property and Liabilities’ Declaration Bill was introduced in Parliament”. In this, the judges of the Supreme Court and the High Court were asked to announce their assets. However, there was a provision that announcements would not be made public. Due to this provision, the bill faced opposition and was postponed.
  • Property announcements in 2009: Due to the increasing demand for pressure and transparency under the Right to Information (RTI) in 2009, some judges made public the property information on their own free will.

What was the case related to Justice Verma Cash case

On March 14, on the night of Holi, at around 11:30 pm, Justice Yashwant Verma’s government bungalow i.e. 30, Tughlaq Cressant Kothi caught fire. Justice Verma was not at home, so his daughter and mother called and called the fire brigade and the police. The fire brigade reached the spot and worked to extinguish the fire and the police also came to the store room outside the house, and a pile of burning notes was found.

After the photo video surfaced, the controversy over it increased. On March 23, the Delhi High Court withdrew the charge from Justice Verma. He was later transferred from Delhi to Allahabad.

Here, the inquiry committee has submitted the investigation report against Justice Yashwant Verma to CJI Sanjeev Khanna. The Supreme Court gave this information through a press release on 5 May. In which it said- On May 3, the investigation report was submitted to the Supreme Court. This report has been given to CJI on 4 May. Now CJI will take further decisions in this matter.

In the inquiry committee, Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court GS. Sandhavalia and Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Anu Shivraman. On March 21, a 3 -member inquiry committee was constituted to investigate the case on the orders of CJI Khanna.

On March 24, Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice Yashwant Verma’s transfer from Delhi High Court to Allahabad High Court. Following the President’s approval and order, the Central Government issued a notification for transfer on 28 March. Justice Yashwant Verma was sworn in at the Allahabad High Court on 5 April 2025.

However, the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court was instructed not to assign any judicial work to Justice Verma.
