The statehood has nothing to do with this … What did Farooq Abdullah say on terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir

Years

Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Farooq Abdullah said on terrorist attacks that state status is not responsible for this. He argued that the attacks happened even when it was a state, because the relationship with India’s neighbors is not good. This statement is witnessing a new debate on the increasing terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and the situation after Section 370.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah reacted on a hearing in the Supreme Court on a petition seeking restoration of state status in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that there were terrorist attacks even when it was a state and this happened because India did not have good relations with its neighbors. He said that the state is not responsible for the terrorist attacks in the area.

Speaking to the media, Farooq said that no one can underestimate anything. These (terrorist attacks) happened even when it was a kingdom. It is not that only state status is responsible for this. This will happen because we do not have good relations with our own neighbors. They (terrorists) come from there. If they are talking about state status and Pahalgam attack, they should remember that many incidents took place even during my tenure, but it was a kingdom at that time.

He said that we had resolved the issue at that time… People hope that the Supreme Court will focus on it and restore our rights, which the government has promised inside and outside the Parliament. The decision came on Thursday after the statement made by the Supreme Court citing the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April in which it said that it is the privilege of the government to assess the ground reality. The apex court also sought a reply from the Center on a petition seeking to restore the state status of Jammu and Kashmir within a certain time limit.

During the hearing, the senior advocate, appearing on behalf of applicants Zahoor Ahmed Bhat and Khurshid Ahmed Malik, read the Supreme Court’s decision to cancel Article 370 by December 2023 and argued that the court only refrained from deciding on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir’s state because the Solicitor General had assured that it would be restored after the election.
