The last date for submission of applications by the meritorious students selected on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for the National Instrument cum Eligibility Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the year 2025-26 has been extended till September 30, 2025.

The NSP portal is open from 2 June 2025 to submit the application by students. In this project year 2025-26, selected students will first have to apply for a lump sum registration (OTR) on the NSP, after which they have to apply for the scholarship scheme they have chosen. The details of frequently asked questions for registration on NSP can be seen on https://scholarships.gov.in/studentfaqs.

The scholarship is provided to meritorious students of economically weaker sections through the ‘National Instrument-Eystical Scholarship Scheme’ implemented by the Department of School Education and Literacy of the Ministry of Education, so that the tendency to release their studies in the middle of the primary level ie after class eight, can be prevented and they can be encouraged to complete their school education by class twelve.

This scheme provides one lakh new scholarships every year to the students of class 9 who have passed the qualification examination for the scholarship conducted by the State/Union Territory Governments. Based on the student’s academic performance, the scholarship continues through renewal from class 10 to 12. The scheme is applicable only to the state government, government aided and local bodies schools and the scholarship amount is Rs 12000 per student.

NMMSS is implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) – which is a one -stop platform for scholarship schemes provided by the Government of India to students. By 30.08.2025, 85,420 new and 1,72,027 renewal applications have been finalized by applicants.

NMMSS scholarships are distributed directly to the bank accounts of the students selected by electronic transfer through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) after DBT mode. The eligibility criteria for receiving scholarships include parents’ income not exceeding Rs 3.50 lakh per year, a minimum 55% marks in class VII examination to appear in the selection examination for scholarship or equivalent grade (5% discount for SC/ST students).

The last date for INO level (L1) verification is 15.10.2025 and DNO level (L2) The last date for verification is 31.10.2025.
