Taking a major step towards increasing security, the North Central Railway (NCR) has decided to install CCTV cameras in all passenger coaches in its Prayagraj, Jhansi and Agra divisions. The project will include 895 modern LHB coaches and 887 ICF coaches, ensuring that both types of rakes are monitored. According to officials, AI-managed cameras will also be installed in select premium trains including Prayagraj Express and Shram Shakti Express to provide advanced monitoring facilities.

In the first phase, Prayagraj Express, Shram Shakti Express and Prayagraj-Dr. Cameras will be installed in many major trains like Ambedkar Nagar Express, Kalindi Express, Prayagraj-Lalgarh Express, Subedarganj-Dehradun Express, Subedarganj-Meerut City Sangam Express and Subedarganj-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Jammu Mail. Each AC coach (first, second, third and chair car) will have four cameras, while General coaches, SLR coaches and pantry cars will have six cameras. These devices are designed to record clear footage even in speed of more than 100 km/h and low light.
The CCTV unit will be installed in all four entry points and corridors, which will monitor every activity inside the coach. The monitoring will be done at the NCR headquarters as well as the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) offices at Agra, Jhansi and Prayagraj. There are also plans to install monitoring equipment in locomotive cabins. Talking to us about this initiative, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NCR Shashikant Tripathi said that the project reflects the railway’s commitment to make the train journey more secure for passengers.

He said that this system will not only prevent illegal activities, but will also help in quick investigation and monitoring. Railway officials said that the project is part of the ongoing efforts to improve passenger safety and increase confidence in rail travel. Work on these devices is expected to start soon.
