The Governor argued that history books tell false story and accused British historians of distorting the facts. He claimed that Akbar’s wife, known as Maryam-Uz-Zamani or Haraka Bai in history, was not of a royal family.

Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde has raised a controversy by challenging the popular belief that the Mughal emperor Akbar married a Rajput princess named Jodha Bai. Speaking at the Pratap Gaurav Kendra on the eve of Maharana Pratap’s birth anniversary, Bagde claimed that Akbar married not a princess but a maid’s daughter. Bagde said that it is said that Jodha and Akbar were married and films were also made on this story. But this is a lie.

The Governor argued that history books tell false story and accused British historians of distorting the facts. He claimed that Akbar’s wife, known as Maryam-Uz-Zamani or Haraka Bai in history, was not of a royal family. Although King Bharmal of Amer had arranged for marriage, Bagde said that the woman was not his daughter. He said that there is no mention of Jodhabai in Akbarnama, which is the official court record of Akbar’s rule, which he used in support of his claims.

Haribhau Bagade accused the British historians of deliberately assessing Indian warriors and glorifying foreign rulers. He said, “The British changed the history of our heroes. They wrote it wrong and Indian historians blindly followed it.” He called for a critical reconsideration from the point of view of the natives on Indian history. He also rejected the claim that Rajput king Maharana Pratap had once written a letter of surrender to Akbar. Bagde said, “It is completely misleading. Maharana Pratap never gave up his pride.”
