Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday strongly advocated protecting the interests of the local people affected in the mining areas during a conversation with Union Minister of State for Coal Satish Chandra Dubey.
An official said that during the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed concern about displacement, ecological imbalance and lack of adequate infrastructure in these areas. According to the official, Soren suggested that the central and state governments together ensure rehabilitation of affected families in mining areas, create employment opportunities and restore environmental balance.
“The Chief Minister said that after the completion of mining works, the land acquired for mining purposes should be refunded to the original landlords (ryots),” an official said. Soren called upon the Central Government to transfer back such land to the state so that local communities could get back ownership.
