After Operation Sindoor, the government can increase the defense budget further. This information has been given in media reports quoting government sources.
According to this, the government has proposed to give an additional Rs 50,000 crore by the Ministry of Defense, which can be approved in the winter session of Parliament.
The Ministry of Defense says that this money will be spent on the purchase of new weapons, ammunition, and new technology. Also, the necessary needs of the army, research and development will also be given attention.
This year the central government increased the defense budget to 6.81 lakh crore rupees, which is about 10% more than the previous year. The defense budget has increased by about 3 times in the last 10 years.

Currently, India’s defense budget is 1.9% of GDP. India spends 75% of its defense budget on its 14 lakh army salary and pension, leaving only 25% for military modernization.
The Indian Air Force needs 42 squadrons of aircraft. Instead, the Air Force has only 31 squadrons. The number of active squadrons in this also is only 29. SIPRI claims- India’s military budget became ₹ 7.19 lakh crore
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) says that in 2024, the fifth largest country in the world has increased by 1.6% to $ 86.1 billion (₹ 7.19 lakh crore). At the same time, Pakistan’s military expenditure was $ 10.2 billion, or about ₹ 85,170 crore.
According to the report ‘Trends in World Military Expenditure 2024’ released on 27 April, India is spending 9 times more money on its army than Pakistan. The report also states that the top 5 countries in the world are America, China, Russia, Germany and India. The total military expenditure of these five is $ 1635 billion i.e. ₹ 136.52 lakh crore.

- China’s military expenditure increased by 7.0% to an estimated 314 billion dollars, showing an increase of three decades in a row.
- Russia’s military expenditure reached $ 149 billion in 2024. This is 7.1% of Russia’s GDP and 19% of all the Russian government expenditure.
- Ukraine’s total military expenditure rose by 2.9% to $ 64.7 billion, which is 43% of Russia’s expenditure. Along with 34% of GDP, Ukraine had the largest military burden in any country in 2024.
April 28: India finalized Rafael Marine Deal of 63 thousand crores

In India in 2024 consecutive year, weapon purchase money cut

Many countries of Europe increased military expenses in 2024
