The central government has taken a U-turn regarding changing the status of Chandigarh. The Ministry of Home Affairs has said that neither a final decision has been taken on this proposal nor there is any plan to bring a bill related to it in the winter session. The proposal is still under consideration at the central government level. No final decision has been taken on this proposal. Appropriate decision will be taken after consultation. No need to worry about this issue.
After the central government’s statement on the Chandigarh issue, CM Mann tweeted and wrote that I am happy that the central government has decided to withdraw the Chandigarh bill and not bring it in the parliament. It is hoped that in the future also no decision related to Punjab will be made without asking the people of Punjab.
Let us tell you that earlier it was revealed that the central government can bring such a bill in the winter session from December 1 to 19, with which Chandigarh will be included in Article 240 instead of Article 239 of the Constitution.

With this, Chandigarh can become a fully UT state, with which the administrative powers will go to the President and the Centre. Because of this, the leaders of Punjab suspected that this would completely end their control over Chandigarh and the Punjab government, Congress and Akali Dal strongly opposed it.
