Maddock Films further expands its horror-comedy universe with Thaama. The film not only offers scares and thrills, but also shows the depth of emotions and relationships between the characters. Director Aditya Sarpotdar has woven the story in such a way that the balance of horror, fantasy, comedy and romance remains constant.
The story begins with Alok Goyal (Ayushmann Khurrana), a small-town journalist. In an unexpected turn of events, he meets Tadka (Rashmika Mandanna), a centuries-old and powerful Betal. The mystery of Tadka and her powers slowly unravels in the story, creating thrill and curiosity for both Alok and the audience.
The first half of the film focuses on domestic humor and family sentiments. Paresh Rawal shows great comic timing as Alok’s father, while Geeta Aggarwal shows the stability and affection of the family as the mother. A balance is maintained between wilderness and supernatural threat in these scenes.
After the interval the story picks up full speed. Alok’s transformation and his new incredible powers take the audience to the heights of thrill. His fight with Bhediya (Varun Dhawan) is technically impressive and visually appealing. The presence of Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) adds depth and seriousness to the story, and hints of Raktabeej and Cirkata foreshadow the crisis to come.
The supporting characters have also strengthened the film. Sathyaraj’s character of Elvis balances humor and mystery, while Abhishek Banerjee and Varun Dhawan’s cameos add natural twists to the story. Nora Fatehi’s cameo is not just about glamour, but also connects the universe emotionally with Stree 2.
The background score and VFX of the film support the story perfectly. The jungle, betal and wolf scenes are technically accurate and attractive to the audience. The songs are part of the story, and no songs are used merely for cosmetic purposes.
The central theme of Thama is the balance of love, morality and human emotions. Alok’s revival through Tadka raises moral and philosophical questions with a romantic twist. The film shows a balance between life, immortality, myth and humanity. Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna have shown natural and impressive reactivity in the characters, while Paresh Rawal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui have given strength and gravity to the story.
Overall, Thama Maddock is a solid and expanding chapter in the horror universe of the films. The film not only gives scares and thrills but also satisfies the audience emotionally and technically. Watching it with family and friends on the occasion of Diwali would be a wise and entertaining decision.
