Tehwwur Rana, convicted of 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, will be brought to India today. According to reports, a joint team of the investigating agency NIA and intelligence agency RAW is present in the US for extradition of Tehwwur. All paperwork of extradition has been completed.
The US Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the petition to stop Rana’s extradition. Tehwavur filed a petition to avoid coming to India. In his petition, he said that he could be tortured if India was subjected to Parkinson’s disease.
Tehwavur Rana was arrested by FBI in 2009. Rana was convicted for supporting Lashkar-e-Taiba in America. He is currently locked in a custody center in Los Angeles.
On 26 November 2008, 10 terrorists of terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out attacks in Mumbai. These attacks lasted for four days. A total of 175 people were killed in these attacks, including 9 attackers, and more than 300 people were injured.

India takes 5 steps for extradition of Tehwwur
- In 2011, India’s NIA filed a charge sheet against Rana.
- India first demanded Rana’s extradition from Diplomatic Channels on 4 December 2019.
- On 10 June 2020, Rana demanded temporary arrest.
- In February 2021, India officially sent a note to the US Restores department demanding extradition.
- On 22 June 2021, India presented evidence during the hearing of Rana’s extradition in the US federal court.
Mastermind David Headley’s childhood friend

David Headley was the mastermind of the Mumbai attack. Tehwavur Rana was his childhood friend, who helped him to carry out the attack.
Last year, government lawyers in the court argued that Tahavvur is the childhood friend of David Headley, the mastermind of the attack. Tehwavur knew that Headley was working closely with Lashkar-e-Taiba. By helping Headley and providing financial help to him, Tawwur was also supporting the terrorist organization and the terrorists with him.
Rana was aware of whom Headley is getting, what is talking. He also knew the names of the attack and some targets. The US government has said that Rana was part of this entire conspiracy and there is a possibility that it has committed a crime of funding the terrorist attack.

- 64 -year -old Tehwwur Hussain Rana is a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin. Tehwwur Hussain worked as a doctor in the Pakistani Army. He then moved to Canada in 1997 and started working as a businessman who gave immigration services there.
- He reached America from Canada and opened a consultancy firm called First World Immigration Services on several locations including Chicago. According to US court documents, Rana also visited Canada, Pakistan, Germany and England several times. He can speak about 7 languages.

Rana was arrested in October 2009
In October 2009 in Chicago, USA, FBI arrested Tawwur Rana from O’Hare Airport. He was accused of providing necessary goods to carry out the terrorist attack in Mumbai and Copenhagen. On the basis of Headley’s testimony, Tawwur was sentenced to 14 years in jail.
In 2011, Rana was found guilty of plotting an attack on Danish Newspaper Morgeinn Galends-Posten. The newspaper raided 12 controversial cartoons on Prophet Mohammed in 2005. A cartoonist’s head was beheaded in the attack.
The next year, the same 12 cartoons were raided by the French magazine named ‘Charlie Hebdo’, in return for which 12 people were killed by attacking Charlie Hebdo’s office in 2015.
