India and Sri Lanka will host the ICC Men T20 World Cup in the first quarter of 2026. According to a report in the midst of all this, the 2024 T20 World Cup winner India and their hardcore rival Pakistan are unlikely to be part of the same group. It has been reported that the future of India-Pakistan cricket will be discussed at the annual conference of the governing institution to be held in Singapore from 17 to 20 July in ICC events.
The political tension between India and Pakistan has limited their world cricket matches to the ICC tournament only. However, after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April and the military conflict between the two neighboring countries, there is speculation about the future of his rivalry in the ICC events. The two teams are unlikely to play together in the global tournaments starting from next year’s T20 World Cup.
A BCCI source told the news agency, “The issue will come for discussion at the annual conference. Although India and Pakistan’s ICC is not likely to play in the ICC knockout, but not to keep them in the same group, which has been ideal in ICC events, a possibility.” ICC Chairman Jai Shah, who was first working as BCCI Secretary, will attend the annual conference for the first time after taking over in December last year. There has been a conflict between BCCI and PCB for the last few years. In 2023, the Indian Board did not allow Rohit Sharma -led team to go to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, forcing the PCB to adopt a hybrid model, in which Sri Lanka organized all the matches and most knockout games in India.
