Non-resident guest nights saw a 5.7 per cent increase, reaching nearly 3.00 million, whereas resident guest nights rose by 4.9 per cent to 2.15 million. Additionally, arrivals recorded a significant uptick of 9.3 per cent, totalling 2.05 million in November 2023, according to the same source.
Largest Nationality Groups of Tourists Are From Germany, Switzerland, Italy
As per country of origin, the highest number of nights spent in Austria was recorded from tourists from Germany, followed by Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Italy, USA, Poland, United Kingdom and Czech Republic.
Commenting on this increase, the General Director of Statistics Austria, Tobias Thomas, called it a successful start of the winter season in Austria.
This is 5.4 per cent more than in November 2022 and the third-highest November figure after 5.23 million overnight stays in 2018 and 5.30 million in 2019.

Whereas from the beginning of 2023 until the end of November this year, Austria experienced 139.73 million overnight stays, which is 10.8 per cent higher compared to the same period last year, and 2.1 per cent more than the entire previous year.
Of those, 102.30 million overnight stays were recorded from the guests abroad, while the guests from Austria stayed overnight 37.43 million times.
136.91 Million Overnight Stays in 2022
Whereas in 2022, Austria recorded 136.91 million overnight stays, with an average of 3.4 overnight stays. Of those, 72.3 million overnight stays were recorded during the summer seasonfrom May until September this year. Within the same year, the country recorded a total of 39.79 million arrivals.
As per country of origin, in 2022, the Germans made the majority of the overnight stays, with a total of 53.4 million nights spent in Austria. Residents of Austria rank second, with about 38.9 million overnight stays. Visitors from the Netherlands spent about ten million nights, whereas the citizens of other countries abroad spent about 34.6 million nights.
Whereas 2019, the pre-pandemic year, holds the highest record, when the number of nights spent in accommodation for the whole year reached 152.71 million.
Last month, Austria recorded 26 million visitors and was ranked as the worldโs tenth most visited destination in 2022 by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
