Stalin government demands the Center to issue funds under education scheme, submitted memorandum to PM Modi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin submitted a petition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to issue more than Rs 2,000 crore from the pending education fund and implementation of long -pending railway projects across the state. The appeal was made through the state Finance Minister Thangam Thenarasu during the Prime Minister’s two -day Tamil Nadu visit, where he inaugurated various development projects and unveiled a memorial coin in honor of Rajendra Chozhan.

In his letter, the Chief Minister said that the Tamil Nadu government is effectively implementing the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme from 2018, which has steadily improved educational results. However, he also stated that the Central Government has made the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to be fully adopted as a former condition for releasing the central funds. He reiterated that the state has some provisions of NEP, especially the implementation of the triple policy and reorganizing school education in 5+3+3+4 format, on legal and policy objections.

The Tamil Nadu school education system currently consists of 43.90 lakh students, 2.2 lakh teachers and more than 32,000 assistant employees. Stalin said that stopping funds for such an important and comprehensive plan affects the future of millions of students. He urged the Prime Minister to release the state Rs 2,149 crore immediately under this scheme for the financial year 2024-25, speed up the first installment for 2025-26, and make sure that the amount is not related to the signature of PM Shri (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) MoU.
