A South Korean court has approved the arrest of former President Union Suk Yeol on the allegations related to implementing ‘Marshal Law’ in December. The court has accepted the claim of the Special Prosecutor that there is a danger of destroying evidence by Yu.
In April, the constitutional court retained the impeachment on Yu after which he was removed from the presidency. He is now returning to a custody center near Seoul four months later.
His arrest was canceled by the Central District Court in January after which he was released from the center in March. This allowed him to face a case without rebellion.
Yu’s criminal case is now being seen by a special prosecutor, who is investigating additional allegations regarding his autocratic attitude. These allegations include misuse of power, rigging in government documents and obstructing government duties, etc. Union’s lawyers described his request for his arrest as unnecessary and said that there is no evidence in its favor.
