Fear of flooding due to heavy rains in Churalamala, Wayanad
The heavy rains in the Mundakkai-Churalmala area of Wayanad have been raised again due to floods and landslides, while more than 200 people lost their lives in a fierce landslide here exactly a year ago. District officials said on Wednesday that the Churalamala river is in spate and mud water is flowing rapidly and there is erosion in the coastal areas of the river near Bailey Bridge. The soil deposited for repair work on both sides of the river has been washed away, causing water to Attamala Road and adjoining areas. Local residents say that they feel that there have been recent landslides in the wild areas near Punchirimatam in the mountainous areas. However, officials said that this has not been confirmed yet.
