‘Song for Shahrukh-Salman, but never got it’: Singer Dev Negi said-usually meets music director-songwriter, we just sing for him

Two songs of Salman Khan’s film ‘Sikander’ ‘Zohra Jabin’ and ‘Bum Bum Bam Bhole’ are trending a lot on YouTube these days. Singer Dev Negi, who sang these songs, recently had a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar. During this, he discussed about personal life including songs and career from the film ‘Sikander’. Singer told that he has also sung for Shah Rukh Khan in the film ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’, but he has not yet met both Khans personally. Here is some more special parts of the conversation ..

Tell me about the songs of the film ‘Alexander’?

The songs of this film and this film are very important for me. My two songs of this film ‘Zohra Jabin’ and ‘Bam Bam Bhole’ have been released. Which is being liked a lot. I would like to give full credit to composer Pritam Da for the song of this film. For Salman Bhai, I have sung in the films ‘Tubelight’ and ‘Kick’ before.

How did you get a chance to sing in the film?

I met Pritam Da during the film ‘Tubelight’. Pritam Da was looking for a boy who knows Kumaoni. One of my writer friends Manoj Yadav told Pritam Da about me. There is a festival of flowers in me. On that, I wrote four lines and sang the same song. With this film, I entered Pritam Da’s camp.

I keep doing some work with Pritam Da. A song ‘Butterfly’ was sung in ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’, which was filmed on Shahrukh Sir. Then sang for him in ‘Chichore’ and ‘Chandu Champion’. This sequence reached ‘Alexander’ growing up. There are more good projects ahead.

Have you ever met Salman Khan, have any suggestions about your songs?

I met Salman Bhai during the music launch of the film ‘Love Passenger’. At that time all the singers of the film were. Salman Bhai was hosting the music launch event. At that time there was only talk till Hi Hello, but yet he has not met such a meeting, which he had given some suggestions on any song. Hopefully, Salman will meet Bhai early. If they have to meet, they meet the music director and lyricist. We think how to sing in his style.

Which song was a career turning point?

The title track song of ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ was the turning point song of my career. The film was released in 2017. That year has been the best year of my career. The same year the film ‘Ton Tana Ton’ from the film ‘Twins 2’ was released ‘Sweety Tera Drama’ of ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’, ‘Butterfly’ of ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ was released. 2017 has been the best year for my career.

How much challenge does the song sung before a singer remain in the song again?

There is a very challenge. The ‘Ton Tana Ton’ Song was sung by Abhijeet Sir in the twin (1997). The songs that have been heard since childhood. He has a big challenge to sing in his voice, but our effort is that the singer does not see a glimpse of the singer. However, this is a very difficult task.

Your family has nothing to do far away from music, then how did you get a tendency towards music?

Father was in the army. Music had no connection far and wide. There is a temple of Shiva in my village. The elderly people of the village used to do bhajan-kirtan, I used to play Manjira there. I think I was inclined towards music from there. At that time there were no information about music, but I was determined that he had to become a singer.

Then you learned music in Uttarakhand itself?

No, there was no scope to learn music in Uttarakhand. I obtained a bachelor’s degree in music from Punjab Jalandhar’s ‘APJ College of Fine Arts’. After that he learned classical music from Shri Vinod Verma ji.

When did Mumbai come and get the first break?

Mumbai arrived in 2010. Nobody knew anyone here. Far from getting a break, it was very difficult to reach people. At that time, Meera lived with a friend in the road. Local train used to come dark. The local train was so crowded that one day my shirt was torn. From there, the dark shift again. Used to travel daily in the studio. Started with small hymns. After that, Alap, title track songs for the TV serial. The first break in films was found in ‘Ankur Arora Murder Case’, but this film did not get any special benefit.
