The Supreme Court on Monday took self -cognizance of cases of suicides at Sharda University and IIT Kharagpur. The apex court summoned both the institutions and asked if the police were informed about the case on time. The court said that it feels that there is ‘something wrong’ in the case. Sharda University suicide case
A BDS second year student committed suicide on Saturday night at Girls Hostel at Sharda University, Greater Noida. On receiving the information, Knowledge Park Kotwali police reached the spot and took the body in possession and sent it for postmortem. The girl’s family also reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported. The police have also received a suicide note from the student’s room. The student has accused a woman and a male teacher of the dental department of mental harassment. Angry students created a ruckus in the hostel premises late at night and raised slogans against the university administration.

IIT Kharagpur suicide case
A BTech student committed suicide in his hostel room located in the IIT Kharagpur campus of West Bengal. The incident occurred on 18 July when Ritam Mandal (21) went to rest in his room after dinner. According to PTI, his hostel partner said that the student looked normal. The next morning, when no response was received after repeated knocking on the door of the mandal, the police was informed. When the police broke the door with the help of the security guards of the college, the student was found hanging from the noose.
