The Ghaziabad police have so far arrested six people on charges of involvement in the murder of a police constable from Noida during a raid in Nahal village of Mussoorie area. Officials gave this information on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Surendra Nath Tiwari said that a constable, who was part of a team of Phase-3 police station in Gautam Budh Nagar, died of a bullet while trying to arrest a wanted criminal. The incident took place late on Sunday night.
The Noida Police team reached Nahl village to arrest the History Sheeter Kadir, wanted in 25 criminal cases registered in Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad and Muzaffarnagar without informing the local authorities.
He said that while the police team was taking Qadir into custody, his accomplices hid near the local panchayat building opened fire on the police and also attacked him with sharp weapons.
According to the official, during the attack, Constable Saurabh Kumar Deshwal (28) was shot in the head and was rushed to Yashoda Hospital, but on reaching there, he was declared dead by doctors. Tiwari said that Deshwal was a resident of Shamli and was posted at Phase-3 police station in Noida.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, four policemen Sachin Rathi, Udit Singh, Sumit and Nikhil were also injured in the attack. He said that in this case, two accused named Nanhu and Abdul Salam were arrested after an encounter near Delhi-Meerut Expressway underpass on Monday evening.
Tiwari said that all the six accused arrested so far, Qadir, Abdul Salam, Nanhu, Mushahid, Abdul Khalik and Murseline have confessed their involvement in the attack and the murder of constable Deshwal. A large stock of weapons was recovered from them. Further investigation is being done.
