SIT constituted by the Supreme Court gave Vantara ‘clean chit’

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the Supreme Court investigating cases related to Vantara, has given a ‘clean chit’ to this Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

A bench of Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice PB Varle recorded the report and said that the authorities have expressed satisfaction over the issue of compliance and regulatory measures in Vantara. The report was submitted on Friday and the apex court visited it on Monday.

The apex court said it would pass a detailed order after studying the report. The apex court on August 25 formed a special investigation team from India and abroad on 25 August to conduct facts against Vanatara on allegations of not following laws in view of the acquisition of animals, especially elephants.

The apex court had formed a four -member SIT under the chairmanship of a former judge of the apex court while hearing two public interest petitions alleging irregularities against Vantara on the basis of various complaints from media and social media and various complaints from NGOs.

The apex court on August 14 described the petition filed by petitioner CR Jaya Sukin as ‘completely unclear’, requesting the allegedly captured elephants to form a monitoring committee to return their owners.
