Four members of the same family were killed and one seriously injured in a disastrous landslide in Gyalsing district of Sikkim. Officials gave this information on Friday. There was a landslide due to continuous rains and his house collapsed at bedtime. According to Gyalashing Superintendent of Police Shering Sherpa, three people immediately died, while two injured women were rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, one of them died due to her injuries.
Four people died due to landslide in Upper Reimbi, Sikkim
According to the police, three people died on the spot due to landslides and the police team, along with local villagers and SSB personnel, managed to remove two injured women from the affected area by creating a temporary bridge from the wood of trees on the flooded Hume river. SP Gauzing Shering Sherpa said, “Despite successful clearance and immediately reaching the district hospital, one woman died during treatment. The second condition remains critical and three are still missing.”
Landslide again in Sikkim on Monday
Police said at the beginning of this week, another such incident came to light in which a woman died on Monday midnight due to landslides at a woman’s house in Gyalashing district of Sikkim.
The woman has been identified as 45 -year -old Bishnu Maya Portale of Thangashing village. According to the police, the incident occurred amid heavy rains, causing several landslides throughout the region.
Consultation continues for landslide potential areas
Police said the victim’s house was completely destroyed due to landslides. The district officials issued a counseling and urged the residents of sensitive areas to be vigilant and to follow safety advice as there is a risk of landslides further.
