Earlier this week, the area was affected due to landslide. The army and local administration have continued the rescue operations, as 64 other tourists in Chant are still waiting for help. Officials said the rescue operation has been stopped due to bad weather and challenging area during the day.
Passengers use Chant located near Lachen, a small town in Mangan district, to reach the Gurudangmar lake, a popular tourist destination. Officials said two MI-17 helicopters were used to bring 39 people from Chant to Pakyong Airport. He said that four other people were evacuated with the help of cheetah helicopter, while an MI-17 helicopter traveling from Bagdogra in West Bengal to the neighboring state of West Bengal, evacuated 20 passengers from the air.
State government officials are also constantly coordinating with the armed forces to save the lives of the people and provide relief to the trapped people. On the evening of June 1, three military personnel were killed after the landslide of a military camp in Chant was killed, while six soldiers went missing and several other soldiers were injured. Efforts are also on to locate the missing soldiers.
