The opposition wants to raise key issues like the Delhi blasts (in which 15 people were killed) and air pollution in the national capital along with the ongoing SIR in Parliament. Earlier today, Congress MPs Manickam Tagore and Vijay Kumar Vasant moved an adjournment motion in Parliament demanding an urgent debate on the ongoing SIR of voter lists. AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also moved an adjournment motion in the House regarding the deaths of BLOs in SIR and several states.
Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad said that the entire opposition will raise concerns related to the SIR process, which is currently going on in many parts of the country. He termed this step of the Election Commission as a threat to democracy. Speaking to ANI, Prasad alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government was trying to disenfranchise people through the SIR process. He said that SIR is the biggest issue, a threat to democracy and the Constitution…Nothing is more precious than the right to vote…BJP government wants to deprive people of their franchise through SIR.

Prasad further said that it can be seen that the deployment of BLOs has been done on the basis of party line and most of the BLOs are distributing forms to BJP workers. Although the SIR deadline has been extended, the work is so overwhelming that more than half of the BLOs in Uttar Pradesh have died. The entire opposition will raise this issue in Parliament. After the successful completion of the first phase in Bihar, the second phase of the SIR exercise covers Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
