‘Sign an affidavit with evidence, otherwise …’, Election Commission reversed on Rahul Gandhi’s vote theft charges

The Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka and Maharashtra wrote a letter to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, in which he accused the Election Commission (EC) of stealing elections in association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a press conference on Thursday. Chief Electoral Officers of Karnataka and Maharashtra asked Rahul Gandhi to share the names of voters and disqualified voters with the signed announcement/oath. Otherwise, they withdraw their statements and stop misleading the public.

The Commission has asked the Congress leader to submit his complaint and a signed copy of all objections to initiate necessary action to investigate the matter. Rahul Gandhi said in a press conference, “This is the data of the Election Commission. Interestingly, he has not denied this information. He has not said that the voter list that Rahul Gandhi is talking about is not wrong. Why you don’t say it wrong? Because you know the truth. You know that we also know that you have done this in the whole country.”

Earlier, during the conference, he claimed that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were choreographed by the Election Commission to benefit the BJP, which seems unaffected by the anti-incumbency wave. Rahul Gandhi claimed that there was a “vote theft” of 1,00,250 votes in an assembly constituency, including 11,965 fake voters, 40,009 voters with fake and illegal addresses, 10,452 voters with bulk voters or 10,452 voters, 4,132 voters with illegal photos and 33,692 voters who misused Forms 6 of new voters.

The letter written by the Chief Electoral Officers of the two states said, “It is understood that during a press conference held today, you mentioned about inclusion of unqualified voters in the voter list and excluding qualified voters …” It also states that it is understood that during a press conference held today, you mentioned about including unqualified voters in the voter list mentioned in Para 3 and excluding qualified voters. You are requested to sign a declaration/oath attached under Rule 20 (3) (B) of Voter Registration Rules, 1960 and return with the names of such voters so that necessary action can be initiated.

On the reply given by the Election Commission to Rahul Gandhi, Lok Sabha leader and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, “I am a politician. What I say to the public is my word. I am saying this publicly in front of everyone. Consider it an oath. It is their data, and we are showing their data.” He said that this is not our data. This is the data of the Election Commission. Interestingly, he has not denied this information. The voter list that Rahul Gandhi is talking about has not described as wrong. Why don’t you call them wrong? Because you know the truth. You know that we also know that you have done this in the whole country.
