The Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat train is specially designed with anti-freezing facilities.
The first Vande Bharat Express to connect Kashmir with the rest of India will run from Katra station from 19 April. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to give it a green signal. This is the first phase of this ambitious rail project. In the second phase, the train will run between New Delhi to Srinagar. Railways is preparing to run it in August or September. However, not a single train will go directly from New Delhi to Srinagar.
A senior Northern Railway official said that the ticket will be made from New Delhi to Srinagar, but passengers will have to change the train after reaching Katra. This will be their security check here. This process can take 2-3 hours. For this, a separate lounge is being made at Katra station.
It will be out of the station. Passengers will have to come out after landing on the platform. Then there will be security check, ID verification, scanning of goods in the lounge. 3 to 6 scanners are being called for this. Additional security forces will also be deployed. Passengers will have to come back to platform number 1 after examination. It is from here that Vande Bharat Express of Srinagar will run.
Due to the investigation, a gap will be kept 3 to 4 hours in the timing of both trains. Passengers going from Srinagar to New Delhi will also have to go through this process. However, it is also being opposed. National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhulla has expressed concern over the decision to change the train in Katra.
Two reasons for investigation … weather and security
Railway sources said that there are two major reasons for a long security check in Katra. First- Travel from Srinagar to Kashmir will be long and there will be a huge difference in temperature in the plains and hilly areas. Passengers do not have physical problems, so it is necessary to stop here. Second- Srinagar is very sensitive from the point of view of security. There is also a thorough investigation of vehicles going by road.
