The clouds of apprehension about caste census in Karnataka are now seen to be damp. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called an important meeting to overcome widespread confusion on whether the survey should be done again or not. The meeting was held after the cabinet session. After which Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the BJP is doing politics on this issue and the Congress is accusing the government of being anti -Hindu. All ministers have been instructed to condemn it and condemn it. The survey will start from 22 September and will not be postponed.

Significantly, during cabinet discussions, many ministers allegedly objected to the “problematic nomenclature” of some castes, including dual identity such as ‘Kuruba Christian’, ‘Brahmin Christians’ and ‘Vokkaliga Christians’. Some warned that these classifications could be misused to promote conversion or affect the stake in reservation of other OBC communities. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar said that we have discussed how some people and BJP are misusing the situation. The Backward Classes Commission has made a list keeping in mind the opinion of the public while under the purview of the law. We are asking for opinion. This survey is being done to provide justice to all.

The cabinet meeting allegedly discussed the objections of influential communities such as Veerashaiva-Lingayat and Vokkaliga, who expressed confusion or differences on recognizing themselves as a separate religion rather than a Hindu. Some ministers suggested that the survey be postponed until these issues are clear, while others warned that the delay could be wrong indications.
