Shriramcharitmanas Case | FIR lodged against 10 people including Maurya in Shriramcharitmanas case, five arrested

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya in connection with the burning of ‘photocopies’ of pages of Shriramcharitmanas allegedly containing “objectionable remarks on women and Dalits” by All India OBC Mahasabha in Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow. An FIR has been lodged against 10 people including (Swami Prasad Maurya). The police gave this information on Monday.

Police told late evening that five people have been arrested in this case. Police said that on the complaint of a person named Satnam Singh Lavi, an FIR has been registered at the PGI police station here. It has been alleged that burning of the pages of Shri Ramcharitmanas is a threat to peace. He said that an FIR has been registered under sections 142, 143, 153A, 295, 295A, 298, 504, 505, 506 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code.

Apart from Maurya, the FIR includes Devendra Pratap Yadav, Yashpal Singh, Satyendra Kushwaha, Devendra Pratap Yadav, Sujit Yadav, Naresh Singh, Suresh Singh Yadav, Santosh Verma, Mo Salim and unknown others. Police said in a statement on Monday evening that out of these ten accused, the five arrested include Satyendra Kushwaha, Yashpal Singh, Devendra Pratap Yadav, Suresh Singh Yadav and Mo Salim. When asked about this, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Cantt Anoop Kumar Singh said, “Yes, an FIR has been registered in the matter. However, having more information than this, he feigned ignorance.

It is worth mentioning that in support of SP’s national general secretary Swami Prasad Maurya, the workers of All India OBC Mahasabha on Sunday allegedly burnt the ‘photocopy’ of the ‘page’ of Shri Ramcharitmanas containing ‘objectionable remarks on women and Dalits’.

The government did not take any step in this regard. We have supported Swami Prasad Maurya on this and the All India OBC Mahasabha is standing with him.

SP’s Legislative Council member and former cabinet minister of Uttar Pradesh, Swami Prasad Maurya, who is considered to be one of the prominent leaders of OBCs, has recently created a controversy by alleging that in some verses of Shri Ramcharitmanas, the caste-based division of society is being done. A large section has been “insulted”. He demanded that a “ban” be imposed on them.

Maurya was a cabinet minister in the previous BJP government in the state. But just before the 2022 assembly elections, he resigned and joined the Samajwadi Party. He contested from Fazilnagar assembly seat in Kushinagar district but lost. Later the SP made him a member of the Legislative Council. (agency)
