Shivraj on ground zero in flood -affected Punjab, heard the pain of farmers, promise to help

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan visited the flood affected areas of Amritsar district of Punjab on Thursday. Today, while inspecting the flood affected areas of Amritsar, Union Minister Chauhan met the flood affected people and heard their complaints. Minister Chauhan also inspected the crops damaged by waterlogging due to continuous heavy rains and interacted with the farmers. Union Minister Chauhan is on a tour of flood affected areas of Amritsar, Kapurthala and Gurdaspur districts of Punjab today. After visiting the flood affected areas, Chauhan will return to Amritsar to hold a meeting with officials late in the evening.

Shivraj said that today Punjab is in crisis. There is a condition of the waterplacing. Crops are submerged. The Prime Minister has sent me. We will reach the villages and take stock of the situation, communicate with the villagers. In this hour of crisis, the central government stands with the people of Punjab. On Wednesday, the Union Agriculture Minister told reporters, “I am visiting flood affected areas of Punjab tomorrow (4 September). I want to tell my peasant brothers and sisters, people that the central government is keeping an eye on the situation. Together with the state government, she will take all possible steps for the people. I will personally go to Punjab and see the situation there. I will discuss with people and farmers.”

Highlighting the seriousness of the loss, Chauhan said, “There is a flood situation in the border districts. Life is disturbed. The public is in crisis. The farmers are in crisis. According to the information received so far, crops are submerged in more than 1.5 lakh hectares of area. In this hour of crisis, the Central Government, standing with our Prime Minister, people.” Many parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh received heavy rains on Wednesday, and the Meteorological Department issued a new warning of thunder and lightning in several districts. In the coming days, the monsoon activities in Punjab are likely to be a bit weak, while a red alert has also been issued for North and South Haryana and Chandigarh.
