Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif thanked US President Donald Trump on Thursday describing the trade agreement with the US as “historic” and hoped to increase cooperation between the two countries.
Trump announced on Wednesday that the US had signed an agreement with Pakistan, under which they will work together to develop the “huge oil reserves” of the South Asian country. It has oil reserves on its coast but there is no progress in exploiting those stores. The country currently imports oil from West Asia to meet its energy requirements.
Prime Minister Sharif wrote on social media, “I want to thank President Donald Trump for the leadership role in finalizing the historic America-Pakistan trade agreement. It (the agreement) was successfully completed by both sides in Washington last night. ”
He said, “This historic agreement will further strengthen our growing cooperation to expand the boundaries of our permanent partnership in the coming days.” According to the official ‘Radio Pakistan’, Pakistan Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb’s Washington DC was finalized in a meeting with US Commerce Minister Howard Lootnik and American Representative Ambassador Jamison Greer at Washington DC.
Trump wrote on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’, “We have just entered into an agreement with Pakistan, under which Pakistan and America will work together to develop their huge oil reserves.”
He said, “We are in the process of choosing the oil company that will lead this partnership. Who knows, perhaps they will sell oil to India someday! ”According to the report, the purpose of the trade agreement is to promote bilateral trade, expand market access, draw investment and promote cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
