It is the dream of every actor to work with Shahrukh Khan. Singer, actor Alia Qureshi got a chance to work with King Khan in her first break. Alia played a strong role in Atley and Shah Rukh’s blockbuster film ‘Jawa’.
The actress is famous for her fans with Jhali Nickname. Alia has had a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar about her acting journey and her experiences in Bollywood.
How did you crack the audition of the film ‘Jawan’. Tell us the process.
When I decided to focus on acting, then I started taking out my ten years old contacts. Some of them were not even casting at that time casting directors. I told everyone that I have come back to India. I want to act, please tell me if you have any audition. I will have any rolls small or big.

In this way I got an audition for Shahrukh Sir’s film ‘Jawan’. I auditioned and a week later I got a call. When I was told on the phone that you have been selected, I could not believe it. I felt that let’s be selected for another audition. When I confirmed him, he said that I have been selected for the film, not an audition.
Tell us about the first meeting with Shahrukh Khan.
I was selected for the film, then I could not believe that I am going to work with Shahrukh sir. My mind was moving that I could not celebrate until I start shooting with them on the set.
When I met him on the set on the first day, it was not felt at all that he is a star and I am New waist. He is a very loving positive and warm person.
He respected us six girls on the set. Hugged us with love. When I told him that Sir I am very excited to work with you. In response, he said that she will not be more excited than me.
They always try to make people feel comfortable. My first scene with him in ‘Jawan’ was the metro, in which he talks to the walkie-talkie with Nayantara.

I have many stories of Shahrukh sir’s goodness. When ‘Jawan’ was released, all the girls made a plan that the theater will go to see the film with the family. But we did not get the ticket. All the tickets were sold out. Then we asked Red Chile Production House for a ticket, so they made us get tickets.

In the same way, when we were all shooting in Chennai, ‘Brahmastra’ was released at the same time. In that film, Ek of ‘Jawan’ was acted by both Star and Shah Rukh Sir. He booked PVR for all of us so that we could all watch the film. There we got the entire VIP treatment. He was sitting with us in PVR and watching the film. His sons Aryan and Abram were also present. Shahrukh sir is a very amazing person.
You have done in ‘Bandish Bandits-2’. Your role received a very good response. Tell us about it.
I received the Amazon Prime Series ‘Bandish Bandits-2’ audition call through WhatsApp. When I read the audition script of ‘Bandish Bandits-2’, I thought it was me. I have played the role of Ananya in it. I immediately started feeling connected with this character. I was explained about the role that it should not feel that Ananya is Ghamdi. Ananya’s character is smart but inside it is the eminent with people. I am exactly like Ananya in real life. Yes, my family is a bit different from Ananya’s family.
This series is very special for me. I have also sung a song with acting in it. I went to dub for a scene of the series. Meanwhile, I met the song of the song from Writer Somel. We had a conversation on music. They asked me what I have done in music so far. Then I sent my songs on Spotify. He liked him very much.

He then told director Anand Tiwari Sir that Alia writes very good lyrics. I got a call from Anand sir and he asked me if you would sing? In this way the song ‘You and I’ of the series became.
How do you watch the review and trolling of the film ‘Nadaniyan’?
My experience of working with Ibrahim Ali and Khushi Kapoor has been good. We all belong to the same age group. On your question, I will say that people forget that they are also humans. Star kids have their own challenges. I understand the critism with napotism but it is not his fault that he is a star kids. Nepotism is in every industry.
Star Kids also used to come in 80–90 era. But people did not realize so much or there was no social media at that time. People could not give feedback.

What is the matter of the Hindi film industry that you do not seem fit. Should it change?
See, I have to work in this industry too, so I will not speak much. I think the producer should rely more on good scripts. New talent should be given more opportunity as lead. A very important thing is a union in the West industry. Because of this, the actors there earn so much money that life should be spent in a manner. We have nothing like this here. Actors are very exploited here. Somebody grabbed their money. Sometimes fees are also not available in a manner. I think there should be a union here too. However, I also believe that it will never be made in our industry. Even if it is made, it will take years.
What has been the most challenging point in your career so far?
Before ‘Jawan’, when I was not getting any work, that phase was quite challenging. I used to question myself whether I am in the right industry. I do not have to live everyday with this fear or not. Even if the work is found, there is a fear that the roll should not be cut.
This happened during the young man, since then I have become addicted to this. I assume that if I am not the lead role, then half of my rolls have to be cut. Thankfully everything is going right now. A lot of auditions are going on. Hopefully, soon you will see you in a good project.
