The Jammu and Kashmir Police has attached the headquarters of the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, which was founded by separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani in 2004. An FIR lodged at Budgam police station last year has attached the office under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Police said in an official release that in a major action against the separatist and terrorist network, the Budgam police have attached the headquarters of the banned organization Tehreek-e-Hurriyat at Rahmatabad, Hyderpura under Section 25 of the UAPA.

It states that the attached assets include a three -storey building, which was being used as the office of a restricted organization. Tehreek-e-Hurriyat was founded by Gilani after separating from its original organization Jamaat-e-Islami. In 2023, the Center was banned by declaring it an illegal organization. The headquarters of the organization was located in Gilani’s residence complex in Rahmatabad, Hyderpura, Srinagar.
After Gilani and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chief Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai (who died in a jail in 2022) and after a ban on it in 2023, the separatist organization was almost passive. Most of the organization’s top and second row is in jail. Former elected MLA Gilani (92) was under house arrest for more than a decade at the time of his death. Police said, “The property was attached according to the legal provisions, based on the evidence collected and by receiving appropriate approval from the competent authority,” the property was attached.
