SC’s blunt on Indo-Pak match: ‘This is just one match, it should run’

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to hear a PIL (PIL) on Thursday in the Asia Cup T20 tournament seeking the cancellation of the India-Pakistan cricket match on 14 September. The case was presented before the bench of Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice Vijay Bishnoi, but the bench did not hold any hearing. Justice Maheshwari told the lawyer who insisted on listing the case for Friday, “What is so early? It is a match, let it happen.”

When the lawyer said that the match is to be held on Sunday and if the hearing is not done immediately, the petition will become meaningless, Justice Maheshwari clearly said: “The match is on this Sunday? What can we do in it? Let it be.” Despite repeated requests from the lawyer, who argued that the petition is strong or weak, at least it must be heard, the bench refused. Justice Maheshwari remarked, “Every day, one side, the other side, a match is … a ball …”, and thus the matter ended effectively.
Four law students filed the petition argued that India’s playing against Pakistan is “against national interest” immediately after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, and the armed forces and citizens who lose their lives in the attack less underestimate. A petition filed by four law students led by Urvashi Jain stated that the cricket match with Pakistan gives a message against national dignity and public sentiment after Pahalgam terror attack and operation vermilion. India and Pakistan will clash at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 14 September for the 2025 Asia Cup.

The petition states, “The purpose of cricket among countries is to show harmony and friendship. But after the Pahalgam terror attack and operation vermilion, when our people were killed and our soldiers put everything at stake, then playing with Pakistan sent the opposite message that our soldiers are sacrificing their lives, while we are playing with the same country that is giving shelter to the terrorists. Lost The dignity of the nation and the safety of citizens comes before entertainment. ”The petition states that the cricket match between the two countries is” harmful to national interests “and is also harmful to the armed forces and the morale of the entire nation.
