Sansad Diary: Deadlock continues in Parliament, government responded on Trump’s tariff

The proceedings of both houses of Parliament were adjourned till Friday morning amidst the continuous opposition from opposition members. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal made a statement by taking self -cognizance in both houses on the recent announcement made by US President Donald Trump on tariffs and trade with India. In the Rajya Sabha, Deputy Chairman Harivansh refused to question Piyush Goyal’s statements, citing the rules of the process. There was an attempt to run the proceedings of both the houses repeatedly but the opposition’s uproar continued on the issue of special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list released in Bihar.

Piyush Goyal’s statement

Giving a statement on tariffs and trade with the American in both houses, Piyush Goyal said that the impacts of import duty (tariffs) imposed on India by the US are being assessed and all necessary steps will be taken to secure and carry out national interests. Goyal also said that the Modi government gives supreme importance to the protection and promotion of farmers, workers, entrepreneurs, exporters, MSMEs and all the stakeholders of the industry.

Lok Sabha proceedings

– On the issue of special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list released in Bihar, the opposition also created a ruckus in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, due to which the proceedings of the House were adjourned for the day after two adjournment.

When Goyal’s statement ended in the Lok Sabha, Chairman Om Birla declared zero hour, but the opposition members started a ruckus and reached near the seat. Birla requested the members who were creating a ruckus to go to their seat and let the zero hour run. He said, “Don’t you (opposition members) do not want to speak in zero hour?” If you want to raise the issue, then go to the seat and want to create a ruckus, then go out of the House or go to the road and make uproar. Birla, seeing the ruckus, did not stop the ruckus, the proceedings of the House adjourned for the day at around 4.5 pm.

– The Lok Sabha on Thursday appreciated scientists for setting up the ‘Nisar’ satellite from the GSLV rocket as part of the partnership between the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the US space agency NASA. On the commencement of the proceedings of the House, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla informed the House about this.

Rajya Sabha proceedings

– Rajya Sabha meeting was adjourned for the day at 4.45 pm after three -time adjournment on Thursday due to uproar by opposition members on various issues. Rajya Sabha leader and BJP President JP Nadda on Thursday accused the opposition of adopting double standards, saying that members of opposition parties demanding discussion on Operation Sindoor and demanded information on Wednesday from the House.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh on Thursday requested the members to let the zero hour and Question Hour run, saying that about 30 hours have been wasted due to the deadlock with the beginning of the session. On the commencement of the meeting of the Upper House, Harivansh said that in the current monsoon session, 120 questions, 120 zero hour mention and equal special mention were to be given but only 11 questions, three zero hour mention and 17 special mention could be taken. He said, a total of 30 hours and six minutes were wasted. This was the time of members, not government work.

– The government said on Thursday that talented students of all states and union territories of the country participate in the youth scientific program “(Yuvika) run by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Giving this information in a written reply to a question to the Rajya Sabha in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the purpose of “Yuvika” is to give basic information about space science, technology and applications to school students, especially students of rural areas.

– The government said in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that all the necessary facilities are being provided to the para-athletes of the country, as well as their specific requirements are also being taken care of. Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Dr. Mansukh Mandavia gave this information to the Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question.
