Sangrur Election: Voters show no enthusiasm, less than 50 per cent turnout – Punjabi News Portal – Pro Punjab TV


The people did not show any enthusiasm for the by-elections in Lok Sabha constituency Sangrur, which could add to the problems of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party. Not many people were seen at the polling stations since morning. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had also asked the Election Commission to extend the polling time by one hour due to low turnout. In terms of polling, less than 50 per cent voting has taken place for the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat by-election.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had in a tweet asked the Election Commission to extend the polling time in Sangrur by one hour. He said that now is the time for paddy cultivation and due to this people are busy in other activities. In such cases, the voting time should be extended from 6 pm to 7 pm. Out of 9 assembly constituencies in Sangrur, the lowest turnout was 32 per cent in Lehra, 41.26 per cent in Malerkotla, 40.58 per cent in Dirhba, 34 per cent in Sunam, 38 per cent in Bhador and 36.23 per cent in Barnala. In Mahil Kalan 37 per cent and in Sangrur 36 per cent people have exercised their voting right.
