We know more about the Moon and Mars than the Earth’s oceans. The huge open sea has some very ancient, untouched environment and valuable resources that are far from human reach. To explore those vast areas under the ocean surface, India is preparing for a bold deep sea mission. India will soon send the human mission ‘Samudrayan’ at the 6 km depth of the sea. Samudrayan is the mission to be sent to India’s first manned deep sea run by the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Its goal? Using a special vehicle is to send three people 6 kilometers below sea level which is capable of withstanding excessive water conditions, excessive pressure, cold temperature and complete darkness.

Union Earth Science Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh gave information about the sending of Samudrayan during the 19th Foundation Day celebrations of the ministry in New Delhi. He said that just as India is going to send an astronaut into space through the ‘Gaganyaan’ mission, similarly the ‘Samudrayaan’ mission will take India’s scientific ability to the depths of the sea. Dr. Singh also introduced 14 new scientific services and digital products developed by the Ministry on the occasion. These include major products such as India Forecast System, Crop-Auster Calendar, Air Quality Forecasting and Marine Biodiversity Report.

Matsya-6000 is a manned submarine that is being developed as a manned vehicle to send three people to a depth of more than 5,000 meters above sea level. This submarine will have a 2.1 meter personnel ball made of titanium that can safely carry people to a depth of 5,000 meters. This personnel shell made of titanium alloy is being developed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) with a unique collaboration between the Space Agency and the Marine Institute. This manned submarine will be equipped with sub-programs for the manufacturing of ejaculation, ascending, strength and control systems, maneuver prophets, manipulators, navigation and positioning devices, data and sound communication systems, on-storage batteries, as well as emergency support systems. This vessel called Matsya in the name of the incarnation of Lord Vishnu has been designed in such a way that it can continuously operate for 12 hours at a depth of 5,000 meters, and has an emergency capacity of up to 96 hours for observation and exploration in deep water.
