Actor- Director Manoj Kumar died on Friday morning at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai. He was 87 years old. His funeral will be held at 11 am tomorrow at Pawanhans crematorium in Mumbai. Manoj Kumar was struggling with liver cirrhosis for a long time. He was admitted to the hospital on 21 February 2025 after his condition deteriorated.
On the death of Manoj Kumar, Rohan Kapoor, son of the late singer Mahendra Kapoor, was emotional during a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar and said that I thought today my dad left this world again.
Rohan Kapoor considers Manoj Kumar as his second father.
Manoj Kumar was celebrated by Rohan Kapoor’s father and guru. He said- Manoj Kumar was my father like and my guru. I assisted him in the film ‘Kranti’. Learned and understood a lot from them. He was a very wonderful person, never seen him in anger on the set. There was neither a patriot nor would ever be. The time in which people knew India as India, then they reminded India through their films. That is why he is also known as Bharat Kumar. India is the name of the British.
Dad first sang ‘Mera Rang De Basanti Chola’ in the film ‘Shaheed’ for Manoj Kumar. When Manoj Kumar saw the passion while singing the dad, he said that Mahendra ji wanted God, I am going to make my first film. When I make a film, you will be my voice. Dad thought that this artist must have been emotional and said so. He was not sure that in the future he would be together that the world would remember. When Dad was called for the film ‘Upkar’, his songs were recorded, the world knows that a history has become a history.
When Daddy used to sing patriotic songs of Manoj Kumar’s films, Manoj Kumar used to tell Daddy’s stories to Daddy before recording the song. Hearing the stories of the heroes of the country, such a feeling of patriotism would arise inside the father that only heroic juice would produce in their feelings.
It was the specialty of Manoj Kumar that before the recording of the song, he used to create the same atmosphere in front of the singer. Before recording any song, it would be discussed in detail. I never saw that he came to the studio and went out after recording the songs. Manoj Kumar is very aware of song and music.
I think today my dad left this world again. After my dad left, he took care of me like his son. He used to love his son and love him. When he used to go to meet him, he used to think very deeply after thinking for hours. Very scholar was the son of a human being and a true Bharatmata.
Whenever Dad used to go abroad for stage shows abroad, the show started with Manoj Kumar ji’s patriotic songs like ‘Jero Diya Mere Bharat’ and ‘Hai Preet Jahan Ki Reet here’. People used to start crying as soon as they heard these songs. Manoj Kumar will be remembered as a great actor, director for centuries. Now India will know what they have lost?
