The court approved the release of both of them on the condition that each would have to deposit two bails and a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh. After the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) officials failed to submit the charge sheet against them, the special court granted both bail on the condition that she would not leave the country.

Kannada actress Ranya Rao has been granted bail by a special court of economic crime on Tuesday. But this is a conditional bail. Apart from Ranya, her co-accused Konduru Raju has also been granted conditional bail. The court approved the release of both of them on the condition that each would have to deposit two bails and a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh. After the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) officials failed to submit the charge sheet against them, the special court granted both bail on the condition that she would not leave the country.

Justice Vishwanath C Gaudar, who is chaired by the hearing of the case, passed the bail order. However, Ranya Rao will not be released despite getting bail. This is because they have been booked under the Prevention of Forex Protection and Prevention of Trafficking Activities Act, 1974 (COFEPOSA). COFEPOSA is a preventive prevention law in India, aimed at preventing smuggling and preserving foreign currency. This law allows individuals to be detained on suspicion of being involved in such activities.

Ranya Rao and co-accused Raju are accused of plotting to illegally import gold worth more than Rs 12.56 crore from Dubai to India. The case came to light on March 3, 2025, when Ranya Rao was allegedly smuggled with 14.8 kg of gold at the Kemp Gowda International Airport in Bengaluru. The latter investigation revealed that Ranya had traveled to Dubai alone 45 times between 2023 and 2025, raising suspicion of her joining the broad smuggling network. Further investigation revealed her relationship with Dubai -based firm Veera Diamonds Trading, which she founded in 2023 with actor and businessman Tarun Raju.
