Former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has been admitted to the hospital a day after his arrest. According to local media reports, he has been accused of misuse of government money during his tenure.
Police said 76 -year -old Wickremesinghe was arrested on Friday. The next day after the arrest, he was taken to the emergency unit of Colombo National Hospital. Hospital director Dr. Rukhshan Bellana said that the former President had a complaint of dehydration, diabetes and high blood pressure. He was later transferred to the intensive medical unit (ICU), where his condition is now said to be stable.

According to media reports, Wickramasinghe is accused of using government funds to attend an event held in Britain to commemorate his wife’s honorary professorship. Wickremesinghe, who has also been the Prime Minister of the country six times, left the presidency last year.
His United National Party ally, describing the matter as politically motivated, said that Wickramasinghe is innocent. However, Wickremesinghe’s office and hospital on Sunday did not make any official remarks about his health or arrest.
