Birth and education
Rajnath Singh was born on 10 July 1951 in Chakia, Chandauli, UP. His father’s name was Rambadan Singh and mother’s name was Gujarati Devi. He did his initial studies in the village and then received an MSc degree in Physics from Gorakhpur University. He also worked as a lecturer of Physics at B Post Graduate College, Mirzapur, UP. Rajnath Singh was a meritorious student from the beginning and later joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and became a caretaker.
Political journey
In 1974, Rajnath Singh took admission in politics and in 1977 he was elected MLA from Uttar Pradesh. In 1988, MLC was elected to the UP Legislative Council. Then he became the Minister of Education in 1991 and started the anti -copying Act and Vedic Mathematics during his tenure as Education Minister in UP.
In 1994, Rajnath Singh became a member of the Rajya Sabha and on 22 November 1999 he became the Union Surface Transport Minister. On 28 October 2000, he became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and was elected twice. Rajnath Singh was elected MLA twice from Hydergarh seat in Barabanki and became Union Minister of Agriculture on 24 May 2003 and then took food processing.
He then became the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party on 31 December 2005. He held this post till 19 December 2009. In May 2009, he was elected MP from Ghaziabad. On 26 May 2014, Rajnath Singh was sworn in as the Union Minister of India and worked as Union Home Minister till 30 May 2019. Then on 31 May 2019, Rajnath Singh was made the Defense Minister. Rajnath Singh was made the Defense Minister after the NDA victory in the 2024 election.
