Due to heavy rains in various areas of Karachi, electricity failed and traffic was disrupted, due to which the local authorities declared rain -related emergency. According to a traffic consultation issued by the Karachi Traffic Police at 8:11 am, the traffic slowed down due to rain, including the city’s major roads and national highways. According to Don’s report, the consultation urged citizens to carefully drive, avoid sudden brakes, maintain slow speed and maintain safe distance from other vehicles. Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah has directed the District Administration, Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Health Department and Rescue Team 1122 to stay on high alert. According to Dawn, he ordered immediate coordination with immediate drainage of rain water and close coordination with Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and PDMA, saying that all the Deputy Commissioners should be present in the field with their employees.

PMD has estimated intermittent rain throughout the day, the minimum temperature is expected to be 28 degrees Celsius and humidity is 85 percent. According to Dawn’s report, till 8 am, Saadi Town recorded the highest 35.8 mm of rainfall, followed by 33.3 mm in Gulshan-e-Mymar, 26 mm in Nazimabad and 1 mm in other parts of the city. Apart from this, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has issued a notification to declare the emergency of rain and canceled all the holidays of the departments associated with essential services. The order directed the municipal services, fire fighting departments and urban discovery and rescue (USAR) to establish a rainy emergency cell.

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Karachi Eastern Region (DIG) Dr. Farooq Ali has instructed Deputy Divisional Police Officers (SDPO) and Station House Officers (SHOs) to take immediate steps to ensure drainage, traffic flow and take immediate steps to deal with emergency.
