Rahul Gandhi will visit flood affected areas of Punjab

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit flood affected areas of Punjab on Monday and will interact with people affected by natural disaster in Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts.

Rahul Gandhi landed on the plane at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar. Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Wading here, Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Pratap Singh Bajwa and Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla welcomed him.

Rahul Gandhi will pay obeisance to the historic Gurudwara Baba Budha Sahib in Ramdas area of ​​Amritsar before leaving for Gurchak village of Dera Baba Nanak and Makaura of Gurdaspur. Punjab is facing the most severe floods in decades.

The flood was the result of the boom of seasonal drains due to heavy rains in the catchment areas of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir along with the rivers Sutlej, Vyas and Ravi rivers. Apart from this, heavy rains in Punjab also made the flood situation serious. 56 people lost their lives due to floods and crops in 1.98 lakh hectares have been destroyed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the flood and damage in Punjab after an aerial survey of flood affected areas during his visit on September 9. The Prime Minister had announced a financial assistance of Rs 1,600 crore for the flood -affected state, which is in addition to Rs 12,000 crore given to the state.
