Ashwin was an important part of the CSK title win in 2010 and 2011, where he took 13 and 20 wickets respectively. In 2010, Ashwin was also the Player of the Series in CSK’s Champions League T20 win. In the next year’s IPL final, he threw the first over from RCB chasing CSK’s 205/5 target and dismissed Chris Gayle for zero. He won the second Champions League T20 Trophy with CSK in 2014.
After being successful in his domestic franchise for a long time, Ashwin now played for the closed Rising Pune Supergiants, Punjab Kings (which he captained), Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.

From his debut in 2009 to 2015 season, Ashwin played for CSK and took a total of 90 wickets. In 2016, when CSK was banned, he played for RPS captained by MS Dhoni. He then dropped out of the 2017 season due to injury. In 2018, Punjab Kings gave a tough fight to Rajasthan Royals and included them in their team for Rs 7.60 crore and handed them the captaincy. In these two seasons, he took 25 wickets, but Punjab’s luck did not change and on both occasions he remained out of the top four.
Prior to the 2020 season, he was traded at Delhi Capitals, where he played for two years. At the 2022 mega auction, Rajasthan Royals added him to Rs 5 crore, where he along with Yuzvendra Chahal prepared a deadly spin attack. He took 12 and 14 wickets in the first two seasons in Rajasthan Royals, but his performance declined slightly in 2024.
