The state government has taken a big decision after the death of three people in a stampede during the Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha. Acting on the incident, the government has transferred two top officials and policemen. Let me tell you, the Odisha government has taken this decision when the incident is under investigation.
Officers transferred while continuing investigation
The state government has transferred Puri Superintendent of Police Vineet Aggarwal and District Magistrate Siddharth Shankar Swain. Senior officer Pinak Mishra, who is currently ADG (Crime), will re -join Puri as SP, while Khurda Collector Chanchal Rana will take over as the new District Magistrate. According to an official release, Majhi also announced the suspension of two police officers, DCP Bishnu husband and Commandant Ajay Padhi.

Puri Rath Yatra stampede: What happened?
A painful stampede occurred during the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath on 29 June 2025 in Puri, Odisha. Three devotees died and around 50 others were injured in the incident near Gundicha temple. Initial investigation has revealed that the accident occurred due to the entry of trucks and excessive crowds in the crowded area near the chariots. After this incident, the Odisha government expressed deep grief and apologized and transferred two top officials and some policemen. A thorough inquiry into the case has been ordered, which has raised serious questions on mob management and security in religious events.
