Dealing a major blow to the cross-border narcotics network under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Police arrested two Indian drug smugglers along with 12 kg of heroin, foiling a major attempt by Pakistan-based drug smugglers. has failed This information was given by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here today.

It is to be noted that the arrested persons have been identified as Gurbinder Singh alias Binder and Kulwant Singh alias Kanta, both residents of village Mallan, district Tarn Taran. Police have also seized his Maruti Swift Dzire car (PB-18-M-8998), in which he was travelling.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that based on reliable information about the attempt of Pakistan-based smugglers to bring in large quantities of heroin, police teams of Counter Intelligence Ferozepur conducted a covert operation in Kila Chowk area of ​​Ferozepur, where a consignment of heroin was recovered from the border area. There was a possibility of these accused coming.

He said that when both the accused were coming in their Swift Dzire car, the police teams caught them and recovered 16 packets of heroin, weighing 12 kg, from their possession.

Giving more information in this regard, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Counter Intelligence Ferozepur Lakhbir Singh said that both the arrested accused were already involved in drug trafficking and many cases have been registered against them under the NDPS Act. He said that further investigation is on to identify other people involved in the module and more arrests are expected in the coming days.

In this regard, a case has been registered under Sections 21(c) and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station SSOC Fazilka on FIR No. 35 dated 11-10-2023.
