DC Amritsar holding a meeting related to water projects.
Under the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the soil and water conservation department has started taking concrete steps to stop the falling water level in the state. In this sequence, it was planned to cover 365 hectares of land through 11 projects in Amritsar district.

In this regard, a meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni. Divisional Land Conservation Officer Ravinder Singh, Sub-Divisional Officer (Nahari Department) Jaskaran Singh and PD Harnek Singh from Agriculture Department were present in the meeting. Giving detailed information in the meeting, Land Conservation Officer Ravinder Singh said that the scheme will be implemented in 11 villages of Amritsar – Kohala, Variyam Nangal, Gunnwal, Kava Lilian, Bua Nangal, Pathan Nangal, Kandowali, Gujjarpura, Sehnewali, Kathunangal and Kumaska.
Irrigation facility will be expanded at a cost of Rs 1.88 crore
1 crore 88 lakh rupees will be spent by the government on these projects. Under this scheme, water will be provided for irrigation from canal moghas, which will help farmers to reduce dependence on ground water. This project is being run especially in areas where the ground water level is falling rapidly and farmers have to depend highly on ground water for irrigation.
178 farmers will get direct benefit
178 farmers will get direct benefit of this project. These farmers will be provided canal water for irrigation, so that they will be able to produce their crops better. The government believes that if ground water conservation is not taken care of in time, it can take the form of a serious crisis in the coming time.
Government’s big step to stop exploitation of ground water
Divisional Land Conservation Officer Ravinder Singh said that the government is constantly taking steps to prevent indiscriminate exploitation of ground water. This initiative to increase the availability of canal water will provide relief to the farmers and will also help in balanceing the agricultural system of Punjab. He said that if steps are not taken in this direction in time, then the situation in many areas can be very serious and dangerous.
This effort of the government will not only give relief to the farmers but will also play an important role in balanced the water bodies of Punjab. Increasing availability of canal water under the scheme will reduce dependence on tubewells and will also reduce power consumption. The Punjab government has made it clear that ground water conservation is included in its priorities and continuous plans are being made in this direction.
