Advocate General Gurminder Singh Gary
Advocate General (AG) of Punjab Gurminder Singh Gary has resigned from his post. According to sources, he has submitted his resignation to the government citing personal reasons. However, the official confirmation in this regard has not been done yet nor the AG
.
Significantly, Gurminder Singh Gary took over as Advocate General in October 2023. He was appointed after the resignation of senior advocate Vinod Ghai. Vinod Ghai also resigned from his post citing personal reasons.
Had assumed the post of AG.
Resignation was taken from 232 law officers in February
The Punjab government had recently resigned from all its 232 law officers. Which was described as a regular procedure for reorganization and increasing efficiency of the office. Now, after the resignation of the Advocate General, the government will have to appoint a new AG.
Earlier, AG Rahe also resigned from the post. Gary AG was replaced by him.
5th resignation in two years
In the last two years, there have been several changes in the post of Advocate General in Punjab. Prior to this, Anmol Ratan Sidhu and Vinod Ghai have held this post. In the last two years, Punjab has seen five Advocate General’s resignations, one of which took over for only one month. Although the resignation has not yet received an official statement, this change reflects instability in the state’s legal system.
