Employees of Punjab Roadways, Panbas and PRTC have long been demanding to make their jobs permanent and increase salary. Employees say that the government assured several times, but no concrete decision has been taken so far.

According to officials of Punjab Roadways Contract Worker Union, they are neither being confirmed nor increased salary. For the last several years, the government is only giving assurance. Now we have decided that if the demands are not met, then the operation of buses will be completely stalled for three days.

How many buses will be affected?

Government buses in Punjab are operated under three major transport organizations:

  • PRTC (Pepsu Road Transport Corporation) – 1,142 buses 704 owned buses 438 rent buses
  • Punjab Roadways and Panbas – more than 2,000 buses

Millions of passengers may face problems due to the stagnation of these buses. Especially school children, employed people and those traveling in rural areas will have more difficulties.

Suggestions for passengers

  • Today buses will not run from 10 to 12 o’clock, so use alternative means.
  • There will be a complete strike from 7 to 9 April, during which government buses will not take to the streets.
