On Saturday, tribal communities blocked roads against the alleged gang rape of an eighth grade student in Khagarachari district of South-Eastern Bangladesh, after which the authorities banned the movement of people and deployed paramilitary forces.
The protesters were mostly included in the Chakma tribe. According to media reports, the protesters stopped the traffic on the entry and internal routes of the district by burning tires under the “Zuma Student-Janata” banner and blocking the trees and bricks.
A spokesman for the district administration said, “In view of the possibility of deteriorating law and order and loss of public money, from 2 pm on Saturday afternoon andSection 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been implemented in the surrounding areas. ‘
Under the order, a meeting, rally or procession of more than five people was banned. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Lieutenant Colonel Kamran Kabir Uddin said that seven platoon i.e. about 250 personnel have been deployed.
Police said that an accused named Shayan Sheel has been arrested and the court has sent him on five days police custody, while the search for the other is on.
