Pro. KG Suresh honored at 56th IFFI Goa

New Delhi. Senior journalist and media educationist Prof. (Dr.) KG Suresh was honored by Prakash Magdoom, Managing Director, National Film Development Corporation and Ajay Nagabhushan, Joint Secretary (Films), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, at the ongoing 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on Monday. He was given this honor for being a member of the Great Grand Jury of “Creative Makers of Tomorrow (CMOT)”. CMOT is the only platform of its kind for young filmmakers in the world. Suresh, who currently serves as the Director of India Habitat Centre, said that CMOT provides both a challenge and an opportunity to young filmmakers to prove their talent and potential. He said that all five films selected highlighted the negative consequences of youth’s obsession with making social media posts viral and expressed happiness over the sensitive portrayal of the subject by young filmmakers.
Pro. Suresh has previously served on the jury of the National Film Awards and the Indian Panorama section of this prestigious festival. While being the Vice Chancellor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National Journalism and Communication University, he had established the Department of Cinema Studies. While being the Director General of IIMC, he had organized joint workshops in cinematography, acting, direction etc. in collaboration with FTII, Pune. He has also been a member of the Governing Council of the Film and Television Institute of Pune and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute of Kolkata. Presently he is a member of the Executive Council of Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts, Rohtak. He has been the Chairman and member of several national and international film juries, including being the first Indian member to be included in the jury of the “Plural Plus” International Youth Video Festival organized by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the International Organization for Migration in 2012. He has written several research papers on cinema and television which have been published in reputed national and international academic journals.
